Located on Haddonfield Rd., just about a mile away from Cherry Hill Mall and nestled smartly in between Hand and Stone Message and Facial Spa and the Turning Point Restaurant, Mora Salon's new home is in the perfect location.  Owner and hairstylist, Wanda Mora, officially opened the doors to her upscale hair salon to the public on Tuesday, February 10.

I got a chance to sit down with Mora in between clients and learned how her dream salon finally came about.

A successful stylist with 22 years of experience (you can often find local celebrities and socialites in Mora's chair), the road to Mora Salon was not an easy one. "I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth," says Mora. Originally from Camden, Mora dropped out of high school as a teen. But after a brief marriage to an MLB player that left her a single mother when the marriage was over.

However, Mora endured and went to college at the age of 27 for business, which proved invaluable later in life.  Mora foremost identifies herself as an educator and Mora Salon was her way to inspire others. "This was a very unattainable thing for me," reveals Mora. "I was a high school drop out.  And if I could do that, with a kid on my hip, as a single mother, working a full time job, then so could you."

In her 22 years in the industry, Mora realized there was never anyone in the beauty industry that inspired her, and she hoped to change that for the next generation. "A lot of people in this industry need a good leader," says Mora. "There was never anyone, owner or boss, that I looked up to."

And the response from the Latino community has been incredibly supportive. It was important for Mora to be a role model to young Latinos in not only the beauty industry and but in all aspects of life. "The Latino community was hungry for somebody to do something nice for us," says Mora.

The swank salon is not just a beautifully decorated space; it's also designed to make the clients as comfortable as possible. Clients can see what their hair color will look like beforehand using special apps on iPads. The open kitchen concept allows a full view of stylists mixing color, and there are charging stations available for client's electronics.  And of course, a selfie on Mora Salon's 'selfie wall' is a must before you leave.

While Mora often books weeks in advance, she has full staff of talented stylists available. For more information, call (856) 663-0600, visit www.morasalon.com, Instagram or Facebook.
