Emmy Awards' 2015 best dressed

Sunday night's 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards was a historic occasion, with actress Viola Davis becoming the first black woman to receive an Emmy for best actress in a drama. Despite the newer, successful streaming media such as Netflix, HBO still dominated the awards with big wins for "Veep" and "Game of Thrones," which set the record for most Emmys wins in a year. The medieval-inspired fantasy series took that win to the red carpet with actress Maisie Williams. And even though some of these actresses didn't take home the winged statuette, they still managed to come out on top on the red carpet

Kerry Washington shone like the gladiator she plays on "Scandal" in a metallic Marc Jacobs dress with a high slit. With a plunging neckline and simple, strappy pewter heels, Washington sexily showed how to rock a shorter dress at a primetime awards show.

Joanna Newsom accompanied hubby Andy Samberg to the Emmys last night, but the singer, songwriter stole the show in a strapless pink Delpozo gown. Her middle part complemented the dramatic, medallion embellishment on the gown's fitted bodice to give the ensemble a chic, almost baroque look.

Julianne Hough rocked a big trend seen at New York Fashion Week in a black, lacy Marchesa gown with a sheer, ethereal skirt.

Tatiana Maslany earned a nomination for Best Lead Actress in a Drama and took the lead on the red carpet in a sleek Bouchra Jarrar tuxedo. She shirked ancient fashion etiquette and went with an all-white look.

Taraji P. Henson may not have taken home an Emmy last night, but you'd never have known it from her supportive enthusiasm and her red carpet slayage in Alexander Wang. The look featured single chain straps, a bodice cutout, and an on-trend, wispy skirt.

Emma Roberts stars in "Scream Queens," a horror comedy airing on Fox for the first time Tuesday, Sept. 22. Her Emmys look was thematic, as she almost looked ghostly in a pale Jenny Packham gown with blonde locks that made the actress look elegantly monochromatic. A relaxed fit, plunging neckline and sideswept waves gave the look a modern 20s vibe.

Actress Jaimie Alexander took a risk in a long-sleeve, fully beaded, dark-toned rainbow Armani Prive gown. She focused the look by keeping her hair sleek and away from her face, and wearing minimal jewelry.

Emmy winner and "Game of Thrones" actress Maisie Williams brought out a new trend with fuzz-tufted heels on the red carpet.
