Cinema's finest stars are celebrating film on the French Riviera this month, and they're wearing the season's hottest fashions. Here are the big trends spotted on the red carpet at the 66th Cannes Film Festival.

Modern Edge

Cannes might evoke images of "Old Hollywood," but many stars opted for modern ensembles on the red carpet. French actress Marion Cotillard, who's no stranger to best-dressed lists, looked effortlessly elegant in Dior's colorblock, strapless gown at the "Blood Ties" screening.

Carey Mulligan ditched Daisy Buchanan with a sleek black-and-white Vionnet dress at the "Inside Llewyn Davis" premiere. She went with a more classic mod look in a simple black sleeveless Chloé dress and an updo at the film's photo call.

Hollywood Glam

Marion also shined at the photo calls in between the lavish film premieres. The star of "The Immigrant" wore a beaded white Alexander McQueen dress and still kept it casually chic with a messy bun at her film's photo call. The minimal accessories and neutral shoes made the look effortless.

Zoe Saldana, Marion's "Blood Ties" co-star, also kept with the ornate embellishment trend with a gray brocade Valentino gown.

Nicole Kidman consistently looks flawless on the red carpet. The Cannes competition juror graced "The Great Gatsby" premiere in a beaded floral Dior Couture dress that was just the right amount of quirk and sophistication. The bright pink pointed-toe pumps made the ensemble retro without being out-dated.

Jessica Chastain's purple Givenchy Couture gown was classically glamorous and the deep color complimented her signature red hair. The intricate beading really brought the dress to life and this dress is one of Jessica's best red carpet looks.

Florals in Bloom

Of course the obvious spring/summer trend made several appearances on the red carpet. Actress-singer Fan Bingbing wore a Valentino gown adorned with a kitschy floral print at a Cannes event. The Chinese star is a regular on best-dressed lists and this year's festival is no exception.

Darker florals also looked fabulous on the red carpet when Milla Jovovich wore a black and white Chanel gown at the "Blood Ties" screening.

Nicole Kidman emanated Grace Kelly in a regal floral Valentino gown at the "Nebraska premiere. Does the dress look familiar? That's because it's reported to be the dress that Anne Hathaway famously ditched for this year's Academy Awards. One woman's trash is another woman's treasure, and this time Nicole is the one who looks absolutely golden.
