A local business is marketing dry cleaning for tech-savvy customers - by using a drone to deliver items.
Manayunk Cleaners, a Main Street shop located in a snug spot between Japanese restaurant Hikaru and Salon L'Etoile, is using the device to attract a younger clientele, reports NBC Philadelphia.
The drone, a converted quadracopter that was originally designed for aerial photography, delivers dry cleaning to clients' doors. It currently requires two people, a pilot and spotter, to operate and execute delivery orders which makes the item largely impractical, but at least the drone is accomplishing its mission of bringing attention to the business: Huffington Post picked up the story Tuesday afternoon; multiple local media outlets have also shared the story. The shop's owner 24-year-old Harout Vartanian says his business ultimately looks to maximize productivity and efficiency through its drone program. [NBC10]
