5 beauty hacks to master in 2015

Lashes and a bright, bold lip are easy to achieve with a few simple tricks for maximum impact!

Lashes and a bright, bold lip are easy to achieve with a few simple tricks for maximum impact!

  1. False eyelashes – Like a good pushup bra, false eyelashes will instantly take a look from 0 to 100. There's a style that suits everyone and every occasion—use individuals to achieve a natural and flirty look or a full set of mink lashes (my personal favorite) for Kardashian approved glam. I struggled for a long time with the application of falsies, until I learned to let the lash glue dry for about 30 seconds before applying them with tweezers. A good pair of lashes to try for beginners is Ardell's Wispies for a natural look.

  2. The perfect red lip – Red lips are understandably intimidating. They can smudge and leave stains on your teeth and anything else your lips come in contact with. The trick for long lasting red (or any bold color lip) is layering with different products. Beauty Vlogger Elle Levi gives a great tutorial here on how to create long lasting red lips.

  3. The messy evening bun – Master this hairstyle, and you'll never have to pay $80 and up again at the salon for black tie events and weddings. I followed Kate from the small things blog's tutorial when I was in a friend's wedding and I was secretly thanking her in my head when everyone wanted to know where I had gotten my hair done.

  4. Beach waves – Made famous by supermodel Giselle Bündchen, this style flatters everyone. When my normally straight haired friend, Jenna, showed up the other day with perfectly lazy waves, I asked her how she got them. She revealed she put her straight hair in a high ponytail and curled the ends with a curling wand.  When she takes her hair done from the ponytail, she runs her fingers through the curls and sets with hairspray. Done in 10 minutes.

  5. The blow dry – This takes a little more effort to learn, but it's well worth it.  The biggest reason why your blow out never looks like it does when a stylist does it is your tools. Invest in a professional hair dryer and you have won half the battle. My Twin Turbo was worth every penny. Let your hair dry partially and blow dry in sections for any easy blow out!
