The pain and grief of the Liberian immigrant community in Southwest Philadelphia has been widely covered in the last few days. Those Liberia-to-America immigrants are reversing something that happened in the 19th Century.

How many Americans know Liberia was launched by freed American slaves, who named their capital Monrovia after President James Monroe?

The flag of Liberia is fashioned after elements of the U.S. Flag.
