There was Pee-wee Herman himself, heh-heh, coming all the way from New York, live via satellite to talk to the critics.

Ready to assist you, Pee-wee, in promoting your HBO special, The Pee-wee Herman Show on Broadway. Shot over two days without an audience, the presentation of the hit Broadway show will premiere in March.

The new show's based on one he did on HBO way back in 1980. "If anyone would have told me I'd be doing this 30 years later, I would have laughed," said Pee-wee, who doesn't look a day older. "But now, you know, now I plan on doing it 30 years from now when I'm 140."

Characters have been added from his TV show, Pee-wee's Playhouse, which ran on CBS 1986-91, "Chairy, my talking chair, and Globey, my talking globe, and, you know, all the inanimate objects that talk. Everything ends with an 'e,' Globey, Chairy, 'eeeeeeeee.' "

One critic tried to ask Pee-wee about his real-life alter-ego, Paul Reubens. "Good luck," he said, making 27 silly Pee-wee faces.

Re-runs of Pee-wee's Playhouse may make it back to TV one day, Pee-wee said. "It's been being talked about for a couple of years, actually. I almost did it with Nickelodeon. And all the big networks have approached me, and I'm just kind of, you know, weighing out the offers, sifting through."

And there's a Pee-wee movie in the works, too. "I'm working on a film right now for Judd Apatow," Pee-wee said. "You may have heard of him. He's the current king of comedy in Hollywood and internationally, and he's producing the next Pee-wee movie, which is absolutely incredible. ..."

"I'm not sure, quite yet, what it's going to be. ... although I've been greatly influenced by Russ Meyer's film Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!"

One aspect near and dear that he hopes to include: Biker chicks.
