After 16 years as the head coach of Temple volleyball, Bob Bertucci has announced his resignation. The three-time Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year took the Owls to 14 straight conference tournaments prior to this season.
With 315 wins at Temple, Bertucci leaves as the winningest coach in program history. The Owls struggled in 2010, finishing their season today with a record of 4-25.
A 32-year coaching veteran whose teams have made numerous trips to the NCAA Tournament, Bertucci led Temple to seven A-10 regular season titles. In his 16 years as head coach at Temple, Bertucci's teams posted 20 or more wins nine times and earned four automatic NCAA Tournament bids, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2002.
His career record of 667-383 includes an eight-year stint at the University of Tennessee (1979-86), where he led the Lady Vols to four NCAA appearances and three Southeastern Conference titles. He was the SEC Coach of the Year in 1984.
Bertucci has coached 10 All-Americans and 59 all-conference selections in his career. Most recently, he coached Temple’s Yun Yi Zhang to an honorable mention All-American honor in 2009. Zhang led all players in NCAA Division I a year ago in kills per set at 5.55, and was an A-10 First Team selection.
