Temple Field Hockey Topples Saint Joseph's, 4-1 in Atlantic 10 Opener

PHILADELPHIA (Ellen Ryan Field) - Senior Bridget Settles scored twice and the Temple field hockey team cruised to a 4-1 win in its Atlantic 10 opener at Saint Joseph's on Friday afternoon. The Owls (4-9, 1-0) will play at home tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. against non-conference foe Wake Forest.

Junior Katie Briglia's first goal of the season would prove to be the game-winner, as she put the Owls ahead for good on a blast from the top of the circle in the seventh minute of the game. Kaylee Keener assisted on the score. The 1-0 lead stood for most of the first half until Temple added a second goal in the 29th minute as Settles scored on a long shot after a penalty corner.

Temple extended its lead eight minutes into the second half when freshman Amber Youtz scored her third goal of the season on a rebounded shot, and Settles kept the Owls' run going six minutes later with her second goal of the game.

Saint Joseph's (3-7, 0-1) got on the scoreboard in the 51st minute of the game when Ellen Rowe beat Temple goalkeeper Lizzy Millen in a one-on-one situation. Millen finished with five saves in the contest.

For the game, Temple out-shot Saint Joseph's 20-9 and had nine corner opportunities compared to six for the Hawks.
