Temple Men's Soccer Blanked by Drexel, 2-0

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – In its first Philadelphia Soccer Six bout of the season, the Temple Owls were held scoreless by the winless Drexel Dragons at Vidas Field Wednesday evening, losing by a count of 2-0.

Drexel came into the match having just one goal scored all season. In the 24th minute, Malcom LeBourne ended the drought for the Dragons when he beat sophomore goalkeeper Bobby Rosato for the game's first goal.

The Owls kept pace with the Dragons for the remainder of the half, matching Drexel with five shots in the half.

Sophomore Jake Lister and junior Cody Calafiore led the Owls in chances, ripping two shots on net each, but were all stopped by Drexel netminder Punti Pussinen.

Temple had five shots in the second half, all of which were nailed on goal. Between the 77th and 78th minute, Lister headed a shot that was saved by Pussinen right before junior Homero Rodriguez nearly brought the game to a deadlock when he kicked a shot on goal, but also was robbed by Pussinen.

Seconds later, the Dragons put the Owls out of reach and were on their way to their first victory of the season when Rich Robinson's header from five yards out found the back of the net.

With the loss, the Owls (3-5-0) are now on a three-game losing streak as they now look to Saturday's match with the Howard Bison in the nation's capital. Game time has been rescheduled from 7:30 p.m. to a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
