Temple Men's Cross Country Takes 13th Place At Brother Doyle Meet of Champions

BRONX, N.Y. - In the 17th annual running of the Brother Doyle Meet of Champions at Van Courtlandt Park, the Owls' male runners took 13th place in the 19-team race, hosted by Iona College on Saturday. Sophomore Phil Fanz ran the 8K in 26:47.77 to place 57th overall and lead all Temple runners.

The Iona Gaels won their own meet, beating out Brown by three minutes and 12 seconds.

Temple ran six of its 10 cross country runners in its opening race of the 2011 running season on Saturday.

Finishing after Fanz was classmate Will Keller in 26:56.38 to take 70th place overall. Freshman Matthew Kacyonfinished the 8K in 26:59.83 to place 72nd in his first collegiate run. Senior Ben Thomas placed 83rd in 27:16.99, followed by senior Geoffrey Barretta in 101st place (27:43.97). Cullen Davis finished in a time of 29:44.51 to round out the race for the Owls and being the 129th runner to pass the finish line.

The next run the Owls will participate will be in two weeks when they travel to Lehigh University for the Paul Short Invitational on Sept. 30.
