NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Helping the Saint Joseph’s softball team claim the Hampton Inn Invitational title this past weekend, freshman Lauren Rendon (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) was recognized for her individual performance as she was named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
Starting all four games, Rendon made a memorable debut for the Hawks, delivering big with her first collegiate hit. Against Towson on Friday, the starting catcher drilled a grand slam home run to put SJU ahead for good in a 7-2 victory over the Tigers. Rendon would come up clutch the following day against host Campbell, knocking in the game-winning run in the Hawks’ 1-0 victory over the Camels.
Rendon shares the weekly conference honor with Rhode Island’s Meg Kelly.
The Hawks return to action this Saturday at the Cavalier Invitational. Saint Joseph’s begins play against host Virginia at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
