Saint Joseph's Women's Basketball Announces 2011-12 Schedule

PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph’s has announced its 2011-12 women's basketball schedule, which includes 13 games against teams that advanced to postseason play last year. A pair of nationally-televised games and the return of the Atlantic 10 Championship to Hawk Hill highlight the schedule.

In all, the Hawks will face seven NCAA Tournament teams (Princeton, Maryland, UCLA, Saint Francis - Pa., Dayton, Temple and Xavier) and six WNIT teams (Drexel, Boston College, Charlotte, Duquesne, Richmond and St. Bonaventure) this season.

Saint Joseph’s opens the season on the road at Princeton on November 11 before returning home to host Lehigh on November 13. The Hawks will then take part in the TD Bank Classic, facing Dartmouth and host Vermont on November 18 and 19, respectively.

Saint Joseph’s remains on the road for arguably its biggest challenge of the non-conference as it travels to national power Maryland on November 22. The Hawks return home for a doubleheader with the SJU men’s team on November 26 as the women host Sacred Heart and men face Penn State. Saint Joseph’s remains at home to host Drexel (Nov. 29), before road games at Lafayette (Dec. 7) and opening the Big 5 slate at Villanova (Dec. 10).

Following a nine-day span between games for final exams, the Hawks return to action with a trio of home contests. Saint Joseph’s hosts Saint Francis (Pa.) and UCLA on December 19 and 22, respectively, before capping the calendar year with a rematch against last year’s WNIT second round foe Boston College (Dec. 29).

The Hawks begin 2012 with a road game at Quinnipiac (Jan. 3) before heading to Massachusetts on January 7 to open the Atlantic 10 portion of the schedule. Home games against Dayton (Jan. 10), Penn (Jan. 14) and Fordham (Jan. 18) follow, with Saint Joseph’s game at reigning A-10 champion Xavier on January 21 being televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network.

Saint Joseph’s follows with four straight games against teams that earned postseason bids last year starting with a road game at St. Bonaventure (Jan. 25). The Hawks then host Duquesne (Jan. 28) and Temple (Feb. 1) before travelling to Richmond for a CBS Sports Network televised game on February 4.

Three road games and three home contests cap the season for Saint Joseph’s as it travels to La Salle (Feb. 8), Charlotte (Feb. 18) and Temple (Feb. 22), while the Hawks host Saint Louis (Feb. 12), Rhode Island (Feb. 15) and George Washington (Feb. 26).

Hosting the 2012 A-10 Women's Basketball Championship for the eighth time, the Hawks will welcome the top 12 teams in the conference to Hagan Arena on March 2-5, with the semifinals being televised by CBS Sports Network and the championship game airing live on ESPN on March 5.
