Saint Joseph's Women's Basketball Earns WNIT Bid

PHILADELPHIA –The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team will make its second-straight appearance in the Women's National Invitation Tournament, as the Hawks were selected 64-team field Monday evening. Saint Joseph’s will host Virginia Commonwealth this Thursday, March 17, at Michael J. Hagan '85 Arena. Game time to be announced on Tuesday.

Winning seven of its last nine games, Saint Joseph’s enters Thursday’s contests with a 19-11 record and posted an 8-6 mark in the Atlantic 10. Despite losing four seniors heading into the 2010-11 season, the Hawks have been strong throughout the year, posting their most wins since the 2006-07 season (19).

The bid marks the eighth WNIT berth for Saint Joseph's and the seventh under head coach Cindy Griffin. The Hawks, who fell to VCU in the first round of the WNIT last year, have advanced to the second round or further in four of the previous seven appearances.

Should Saint Joseph's win Thursday, the Hawks would face either Boston College or Yale. Date and time for that game has yet to be determined.
