Explorers Drop Contest To Monmouth, 13-8

Lauren McDermott, Nora McGurkin and Samantha Tulskie each added a pair of goal for the Explorers as the women’s lacrosse team fell 13-8 to Monmouth on Wednesday evening at McCarthy Stadium.

La Salle got on the board quickly after McDermott won the opening draw for the Explorers and sent the ball to McGurkin, who would take it downfield to score 17 seconds into the game.

The Hawks responded with a goal of their own by Carissa Franzi off a free position shot.  They would continue to take advantage of their free position opportunities, adding two more free position goals to make the score 3-1 just over five minutes into the contest.

Tulskie added her two goals in the first half, but the Explorers saw themselves with a three goal deficit, trailing 6-3 with 10:21 to play in the half.

Two straight La Salle goals, one each by McGurkin and Jackie Roebuck, got the Blue and Gold within one a 6-5, the closest they would get for the remainder of the game.

La Salle trailed 7-5 at the break and fell behind 13-7 before a McDermott goal with six seconds to play made the final 13-8.

Melanie Sarcinello also added a goal for La Salle to round out the scoring.  McDermott notched two assists.

For the Hawks, Rachel Feirstein led the attack with 5 goals on nine shots.

Megan Corliss played 51:23 in goal for La Salle, making six saves and allowing 12 goals.  Maura Malone also saw time between the pipes, allowing one goal in 8:37.

La Salle will be in action this weekend when it travels to face Drexel at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
