McDermott Adds Four Goals In Lacrosse's Win Over Iona, 17-6

PHILADELPHIA - Sophomore Lauren McDermott led the Explorers with four goals as they defeated Iona, 17-6, on Wednesday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.

With the victory, La Salle improves to 1-1 on the season.

Sophomore Melanie Sarcinello added a hat trick, while junior Taylor Ruland and sophomores Jackie Roebuck and Samantha Tulskie each added a pair of scores.

Goals by juniors Rachel Baker and Nora McGurkin and freshman Katie Marasco rounded out the scoring for La Salle.

Bakers caused three turnovers for the Explorers, while McGurkin controlled four draws and picked up three ground balls.

Iona scored first, but La Salle responded with four straight goals to go ahead 4-1 and would go into the break with a 9-3 edge.

The Explorers kept up the offense in the second half, scoring eight more goals. Marasco would net her first collegiate goal.

The Explorers controlled 14 draws to the Gales’ 11.

For Iona, Kylie Gregory and Caitlyn Collins each added two goals.

The Explorers will next travel to face Lafayette on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
