Towson, Md. - Drexel fell in a tight 4-3 match to Towson in a tight CAA women's tennis match. The Tigers improve to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in conference matches. The Dragons fall to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in CAA play. Gozde Unkaya and Zeynep Mafa won in singles play and Drexel won two out of three doubles matches to claim an additional team point.
Drexel's doubles teams of Sonja Stosic and Zeynep Mafa and Emma Brook and Elise Leizerovich gave the Dragons an early point by winning at first and second doubles respectively.
The lead was short-lived however, as Towson won two-setters at fourth, fifth and sixth singles showing their strength at the bottom of the lineup. Gozde Unkaya pulled out a three-setter at first singles, displaying the poise of a senior leader. After dropping the first set to Aandria Carr, 6-2, she rebounded for a 6-2 win in the second set and a resounding 6-0 win in the third.
At third singles, Zeynep Mafa extended her match winning streak to five straight with a straight-set victory over Ioana Aprodu 6-4, 6-3.
The loss snaps a four-match winning streak for the Dragons who will return to action tomorrow afternoon at city rival Saint Joseph's.
