BRONX, N.Y. - Helping the Saint Joseph's softball team to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship this week, juniors Ashley Alden and Melissa Ruf were selected to the All-Championships Team, conference officials announced on Saturday.
Providing power in the middle of the SJU lineup, Alden made an impressive showing in her first A-10 Championship, finishing with a team-high eight RBI, two home runs and a .345 batting average. Joining the Hawks this year after spending the previous two at Rutgers, the starting first baseman slugged 1.000 at the conference postseason with three extra-base hits. Helping Saint Joseph's to its seventh-straight A-10 Championship appearance, the A-10 All-Conference Second Team honoree Alden finished the year with a career-high .345 batting average and led the team in hits (39), home runs (six), RBI (23) and slugging percentage (.584).
Starting all four games of the A-10 Championship in left field, Ruf batted a team-high .615, going 8-for-13 with four doubles and four RBI. Slugging .923 with a .688 on-base percentage, the All-Conference Second Team selection also added three walks and a stolen base. Ruf Capped the season with a career-high and team-leading .363 average and finished third in hits (33) and fourth in RBI (17).
Alden and Ruf are the 20th and 21st Hawks to garner A-10 All-Championship Team accolades.
