PHILADELPHIA - Playing through pouring rain, the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team put up a strong effort, but eventually fell to Hofstra, 2-0, Saturday evening at Sweeney Field.
The Pride (6-3-0) got on the board in the 42nd minute as Sam Scolarici deflected a pass from teammate Leah Galton inside the SJU box and into the back of the net at 41:45.
Hofstra would make it 2-0 at 46:33 on a breakaway goal by Galton.
The Hawks (4-4-2) would have two scoring opportunities from there, but shots by Shannon Farrell and Mo Hawkins could not find the back of the net.
For the game, Hofstra finished with a 16-3 edge in shots and 3-0 edge incorner kicks.
In net, SJU senior goalkeeper Lauren Jancuska made a game-high four saves.
The Hawks return to action next Sunday as they open the Atlantic 10 portion of their schedule against Massachusetts at 1 p.m. at Sweeney Field.
