Drexel's Davis, Rosales, Mafa Move on in ITA Main Draw

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Skyler Davis moved on in the first round of the main draw of the ITA Regional championships at Yale University this weekend, earning a three-set win over Jacob Spreyer of UConn to advance. Davis, a junior, was the only Dragon to advance in ITAs before ultimately falling to Princeton in the second round.

Davis jumped out to a quick start in the first set against Spreyer, winning 6-2 before dropping the second, 2-6. In the third and deciding set, Davis once again got himself strong footing, building up a 6-3 victory to win the match. In the second round, Davis was defeated in a tough match, 6-4, 6-4.

On the women's side, the Dragons have two individuals and a doubles team still alive at the ITA Regionals at West Point. Marcela Rosales scored an impressive victory over Harvard's Natalie Blosser, one of the nation's top junior players and a highly-regarded collegian. Rosales won in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6.

In the second round, Rosales won a marathon match over Quinnipiac, 6-0, 6-7, 7-5. The match lasted three hours, but saw the Drexel junior move on before falling in the third round to a singles player from Princeton. Also advancing to the second round was Zeynep Mafa. The pair of Rosales and Mafa also advanced to the second round of the doubles draw before falling.
