PHILADELPHIA - Last season, Badr Ouabdelmoumen became the first Drexel freshman men's tennis player to earn All-CAA recognition. In his first event as a sophomore, Ouabdelmoumen made some more Drexel history when he became the first men's tennis player to win a Flight One main draw at the Saint Joseph's Invitational. He defeated two Delaware Blue Hens in the semifinals and finals to earn the title.

After reaching the semifinals on Sunday, Ouabdelmoumen faced Delaware's Adam Lawton, handling him with relative ease, 6-2, 6-4. In the finals, Ouabdelmoumen went up against one of the Colonial Athletic Association's best individual players, Troy Beneck. The Drexel sophomore dropped the first set 7-6, but rebounded strongly in the second to win, 6-1. In the tiebreaker, Ouabdelmoumen grinded out a very evenly-played, 10-8 decision to win the draw.

Ouabdelmoumen boasted wins over Lafayette and Bucknell players before taking down the pair of Blue Hens.

He was not the only Dragon to play well over the weekend. In doubles play, Jeganathan Srinivasan and Dan Hansen defeated teams of Army and Hofstra to reach the semifinals of Flight Two. There, they took down Devin Bostick and Axel Rebstein of Saint Joseph's 8-3. In the finals, Srinivasan and Hansen earned the championship by defeating Villanova's Ryan Peyton and Chris Seitz, 8-6.

Skylar Davis opened his season by defeating Hofstra's Ari Richman 6-1, 3-6, 10-5. He then advanced to the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the quarters before falling to Beneck of Delaware.

In Flight Three, Paul Stauskas defeated Ben Davies of Army 6-0, 6-2, then took down Penn's Kyle Roth 6-3, 6-7, 10-8 and Hofstra's Matt Gemmell, 6-3, 7-5 to advance to the semifinals. He fell there to Mike Rosengren of Villanova.

The strong results for the Dragons continued in the consolation draws. Dan Koehler won Consolation Flight Four with wins over Delaware, Army and Lafayette, the final by a 6-4, 7-5 score. He then teamed with newcomer Tyler Pultro to advance to the Flight Two Doubles consolation final. That match will be played and added to this recap on Monday.

The tournament was the first for new head coach Mehdi Rhazali. Rhazali took over as the head coach after serving as an assistant last year. He graduated from Drexel, having played for the Dragons, in 2011.
