Lowinger's Late Goal Pushes Drexel Women's Soccer Past Penn, 1-0

Philadelphia – Drexel senior tri-captain Jess Lowinger scored the game's only goal in the 74th minute lifting the Dragons to a 1-0 win against Penn at Vidas Field. The win improved the Dragons record to 5-1-1, the best seven match start in Drexel women's soccer history.
The match was scoreless until Lowinger finally got the Dragons on the board. Drexel lofted a cross towards the box. It was headed by a Penn (2-2) defender, but Lowinger picked up the loose ball in the box, turned and fired it into the lower left corner to break the tie. It was her second goal of the year and proved to be the game winner. Penn applied pressure on the Dragons in the last 10 minutes as they tried to even the score, but the Drexel defense didn't allow the Quakers to get a good shot in the game's final minutes
The two teams played a defensive first half with very few scoring opportunities. There were only six shots in the 45 minutes, and only one real good scoring chance.  In the 10th minute, Penn's Claire Walker fired a shot from just outside the box towards the far low corner, but Drexel's Eve Badana made a diving stop to keep the game even.
Drexel outshot the Quakers, 9-6, in the match. The Quakers had all four of the corner kicks in the contest. Eve Badana made three saves in the match for Drexel and picked up her third shoutout of the season, matching her total from last year. Sarah Banks made two saves for Penn.
The Dragons, who had lost to the Quakers in all eight of their previous meetings, are now unbeaten in their last six matches (5-0-1). They put that streak on the line on Friday afternoon, when they visit Temple. The match begins at 4 p.m. in Ambler, Pa.
