PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team had its seven-game home win streak snapped Tuesday afternoon as the Hawks fell to Dayton, 65-51, before a frenzied crowd of 2,451 fans at Hagan Arena.

The Flyers (10-4, 2-0 Atlantic 10) took control from the tip, running out to a 15-2 lead less than seven minutes in. While Dayton pulled away, the Hawks struggled from the floor, going 0-for-9 and turning the ball over six times during that stretch, before getting their first field goal on a layup by sophomore guard Erin Shield (Drexel Hill, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) at 12:54.

Up 27-16, Dayton continued to create distance between itself and Saint Joseph's, using an 8-0 run to open a 35-16 gap on a layup by Ally Malott at 2:49. The Flyers would take a 38-18 lead into halftime as Saint Joseph's shot just 8-of-26 from the floor (30.8 percent) and turned the ball over 14 times in the opening period.

Saint Joseph's opened the second half with a 5-0 run to come within 15 on a jumper by senior Samira van Grinsven (Helmond, Netherlands/Jan van Brabaut), but Dayton answered with seven-straight points to open a 22-point lead.

The Hawks would continue to chip away, but would come no closer than the final differential of 14 points.

For the game, the Hawks hit 17-of-48 from the filed (35.4 percent) and 17-of-18 from the foul line (94.4 percent), but were held without a three pointer for just the second time this year. Junior guard Ashley Prim (Ansonia, Conn./Kolbe Cathedral) led the SJU offense, scoring 12 points and adding five assists and five rebounds. Senior Michelle Baker (Wilmington, Del/Brandywine) added eight points to go with three rebounds.

At the other end, Dayton finished 25-of-67 from the field (37.3 percent), hit 3-of-11 from three-point range (27.3 percent) and converted 12-of-19 from the foul line (63.2 percent). The Flyers' Andrea Hoover led all scorers with a career-high 18 points, while Casey Nance grabbed game-best 10 rebounds.

Saint Joseph's returns to action this Saturday when the Hawks host Big 5 rival Penn at 2 p.m.
