PHILADELPHIA – The Explorers recognized juniors Breanna Mazalewski and Samantha Tulskie as 1,000 dig players as the squad fell to Xavier, 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-9) on Sunday afternoon at Tom Gola Arena.
Tulskie earned her 1,000th dig in the first set, while Mazalewski registered her 1,000th on Friday evening at Rhode Island.
Leading the Explorers this afternoon with six kills each were senior Kourtney Clark and Tulskie. Tulskie was also the team’s digs leader with 15. Clark added 13 assists.
The first set was tight at the outset, with nine ties. The Explorers held an 11-9 lead, but that was their last for the set. The Musketeers used an 11-1 run to go up 20-12 and then put the set away, 25-17.
In the second set, the Explorers fell behind, but worked to get back within one at 19-18 after a kill by senior Alex Kennedy. However, the Musketeers earned the set’s next four points on a service ace, a kill and two La Salle errors to go up 24-19.
The Explorers held off Xavier, adding two points after a Clark kill and Musketeers’ error. Ame White won the set for Xavier with a kill on the next play.
Xavier took charge in the third set, closing out the match with a 25-9 victory.
Three Xavier players registered double-digit kills, with Kelsey Dunaway leading the way with 13. Aubree Smith posted a match-high 42 assists.
La Salle will play its three remaining matches at Tom Gola Arena. It will play its final non-conference match against Coppin State on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
