La Salle Falls To Penn In Double-Overtime, 1-0

PHILADELPHIA - Penn's Helene Caniglia scored three minutes into double-overtime to lift the Quakers to a 1-0 victory over La Salle on Wednesday night at Franklin Field. Freshman Lisa Shaffer (Hershey, Pa. / Lower Dauphin) made eight saves in defeat, the third overtime contest in the last four games for the Explorers.

Caniglia inserted the ball on the penalty corner and then took a pass from Kirstin Snyder to find the back of the cage.

La Salle (3-6) held a 14-9 advantage in shots and a 13-9 lead in corners but was unable to convert against its city rivals.

Senior Lindsay Fry had a team-high five shots while sophomore Mariel Papa had four.

Penn, which improves to 2-6, was led by goalie Kieran Sweeney's 13 saves.

The Blue and Gold are back in action this weekend with games at Bryant on Saturday and Sacred Heart on Sunday.
