Drexel Crew Dominates Water in Season Opener

Rumson, N.J. - Director of Rowing Paul Savell guided three varsity boats to a first place finish in the season opener on Saturday at the Rumson Boat Race held on the Navesink River in Rumson, N.J. Drexel had successful day topping Army, Rutgers, and Villanova on the water.

Rumson, N.J. - Director of Rowing Paul Savell guided three varsity boats to a first place finish in the season opener on Saturday at the Rumson Boat Race held on the Navesink River in Rumson, N.J. Drexel had successful day topping Army, Rutgers, and Villanova on the water.

The women's varsity eight boat had a strong finish and set the tone for Drexel. The Marlene Buckley boat featured Alex Paulin (c), Julia Jackson (s), Colleen Delaney (7), Juliana DeMarici (6), Megan Bush (5), Kayla Wroblesky (4), Emily Coyle (3), Elizabeth Bratton (2), and Asiya Mahmud (b) powered through the finish line at 622.7 topping Army and Villanova.

Drexel's men's varsity eight boat recorded first place with a time of 533.97. The Vince Vidas boat included Randall Lee will cox the Vince Vidas boat along with Kurt Linton (s), Vanja Busic (7), Michael Faust (6), Lorenzo Albala (5), Aleksandar Radovic (4), Matthew Ryan (3), Sebastian Ryan (2), and Patrick McGann (b). The men's second varsity eight race was canceled, but the Annette Pennoni boat still took the water and competed in the same event.

The women's second varsity eight concluded the day with Drexel's third top finish of the day. The John A. Daskalakis boat with Caitlin Meehan (c), Amanda O'Malley (s), Elizabeth Daugherty (7), Mollie Cusack (6), Samantha Cowan (5), Jackie Bender (4), Alyssa Leahy (3), Jillian Skovran (2), and Kathy Cheng (b) passed Villanova with a first place time of 635.6.
