Shutout Streak Reaches Nine Games as Huseini's Winner Lifts Women's Soccer Past Lehigh 1-0

PHILADELPHIA – A second-half winner by freshman Maryam Huseini (Skien, Norway/Telemark School) and another solid defensive performance helped the La Salle women’s soccer team hold off Lehigh 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.

PHILADELPHIA – A second-half winner by freshman Maryam Huseini (Skien, Norway/Telemark School) and another solid defensive performance helped the La Salle women's soccer team hold off Lehigh 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.

"Things got a bit nervy for us towards the end, but we found another way to win," said head coach Paul Royal.

Huseini caught Lehigh keeper Ashley Blanks off her line in the 64th minute and chipped one just under the cross bar to put La Salle on top 1-0.  The goal was the second of Huseini's career and her first game-winner.

Melissa Sanger (Mullica Hill, N.J./Kingsway Regional) needed just one save in net to preserve her ninth shutout of the season as she continues to add to her career and single-season records at La Salle.

The remarkable shutout streak also continues as La Salle is the only team in Division I that has yet to be scored upon in 2011.

The Explorers (8-0-1) have begun the season on a nine-game unbeaten streak and are off to the best start in school history.

La Salle will now enter Atlantic 10 play next Friday with a home contest against city-rival Temple.  Opening kick is set for 7 p.m. from McCarthy Stadium.
