NEWARK – The volleyball team lost to NJIT, 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-15), on Tuesday evening at the Fleisher Center.

Junior Samantha Tulskie led the Explorers' attack with eight kills and also added eight digs.  Senior Kourtney Clark had 22 assists.   Defensively, junior Breanna Mazalewski posted a match-high 11 digs.

Mazalewski, tops in the Atlantic 10 in aces per set and 17th in Division 1 in the same category, registered one ace.  Freshman Jennifer Whelan, Clark and Tulskie also did so as well.

After losing the first set 25-20, the Explorers (3-13) rebounded in the second.

They held an early 10-5 lead after a kill by junior Kelly Scanlon.  However, NJIT (4-10) would storm back, using a four-point rally to knot the set at 16-all.

La Salle won the next point on a service error to go up 17-16, but that was the last lead the team would hold in the contest.  Four attack errors and a Highlanders' ace and kill would put the Blue and Gold behind an insurmountable 22-17.

The Explorers allowed the Highlanders to hit .500 in the final set.  After NJIT jumped out to a 7-1 led, La Salle could not catch up.

Janet Snell posted a match-high 16 kills and two service aces for NJIT.

The volleyball team will begin its conference schedule with two matches this weekend on the road against Dayton and Xavier.
