Temple Men's Soccer Holds Off Jacksonville, 3-2

De LAND, Fla.— Sophomore goalkeeper Bobby Rosato made a key save in the 88th minute on Jacksonville's Casey Tafuni to prevent Friday's first match of the Stetson Soccer Classic from heading into an extra session. Temple scored all the goals it needed to secure the 3-2 victory by getting off to a quick start, putting up three goals in the first 16 minutes.

Following the offensive outburst the Owls put up to begin the match, Jacksonville stormed back with offensive pressure of its own. The Dolphins managed to get 11 corner kicks in the match and were able to maintain possession for much of the contest due to 13 Temple fouls. Jacksonville made the most of its time with the ball, outshooting Temple 19-8 from the time the Owls scored their final goal of the game and the end of the match.

Stefan Durr brought the Dolphins within two-goals in the 53rd minute before Henrik Synres narrowed the gap to a one-goal game with just over 10 minutes to go in regulation.

Temple's defense came up strong in the end and held off Jacksonville's threat at making a comeback.

Tafuri headed two shots at Temple's goal within the final two minutes. Rosato, who finished the game with six saves, made a stop on one of the potential game-tying shots before Tafuri's second chance at deadlocking the contest with under a minute remaining went just wide.

Following the game, it was announced that Calafiore will be out of the lineup again on Sunday afternoon when the Owls pick up play in the Stetson Soccer Classic at 2:00 p.m. against the hosting Hatters of Stetson University. Calafiore is expected to miss at least two weeks before returning action.
