PHILADELPHIA –Towson freshman Kate Nolan scored three minutes into overtime to give the visiting Tigers a 2-1 victory over La Salle on Friday afternoon at DeVincent Field. Towson trailed for the entire 73-plus minutes leading up to Nolan's tally but the decisive goal was enough to send La Salle to its second straight overtime defeat.

Junior Janel Paukovits (Northampton, Pa. / Northampton) scored in the eighth minute for La Salle after deflecting a shot off the stick of classmate Becca Chylack (Souderton, Pa. / Souderton). It was Paukovits second goal of the season.

The lead remained 1-0 for the Explorers for most of the first half until Towson's leading scorer, Kim Schnell, took advantage of a penalty stroke and tied the score with just under five minutes before halftime.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the second half, although each team had several chances. Sophomore Jessica Deaner (Berlin, N.J. / Eastern) made a clutch defensive save in the second half to stop a Tiger shot, while freshman Lisa Shaffer (Hershey, Pa. / Lower Dauphin) (nine saves) had several important saves down the stretch.

On the offensive side, sophomore Olivia Shoemaker hit the post with a shot with 12:32 to play that was inches from giving La Salle the lead.

The Blue and Gold contested the final 3:25 in regulation, and the first 1:35 of overtime, a player down due to a yellow card but managed to keep the score tied. The feat was especially impressive during the 95 seconds of overtime where just five field Explorers covered the entire field.

Towson took advantage of a penalty corner to score the game-winner. Nolan deflected a shot by Jamie Salvador past Shaffer in the cage to account for the final score.

The Tigers (3-3) held a 19-13 advantage in shots, while La Salle had an 11-6 lead in corners. Christina Siewic of Towson made six saves in goal.

The Explorers (2-5) are off until a September 24 visit to St. Francis (PA).
