NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Saint Joseph's senior forward Ellen Rowe (Selbyville, Del./Sussex Technical) was named the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. Rowe had a hand in four of SJU's five goals this past weekend, scoring three of them herself and adding an assist.

On Saturday, Rowe netted both Hawk tallies in an eventual 7-2 loss to undefeated Ohio. On both scores, Rowe inserted the ball on a penalty corner and received a quick return pass that she converted into her first and second goals of the season.

The senior captain scored her third goal of the weekend at the end of the first half of Sunday's 4-3 loss to Towson. Once again, a well-executed penalty corner led to the Delaware native getting the Hawks within one at the break. With time running out in the second half, Rowe inserted another penalty corner that led to Therese Doyle's second goal of the season and again cut the deficit to one, but the Hawks were unable to get the tying goal in the final seconds.

Her seven points early in the 2011 campaign have already matched her output from last season, and her 16 career goals lead all active players. This is Rowe's third career weekly award; she received back-to-back A-10 Rookie of the Week honors in October of 2008.

The Hawks are back in action on Sunday, September 11 when they host Penn at Buckley Field. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
