Drexel Field Hockey Defeats Fairfield, 2-1

The 18th-ranked Drexel field hockey team defeated Fairfield, 2-1, on Monday afternoon. The win moved Drexel to 2-0 on the season, while Fairfield dropped to 1-1.

Philadelphia – The 18th-ranked Drexel field hockey team defeated Fairfield, 2-1, on Monday afternoon. The Dragons recorded 15 shots and seven penalty corners, to just five shots and two corners for the Stags. The win moved Drexel to 2-0 on the season, while Fairfield dropped to 1-1.

With a little less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half, senior Monica Baick was able to connect with Lindsay McArdle on a penalty corner and put the Dragons ahead by one, 1-0. Freshman Christina Conrad scored her first collegiate goal right before the time expired. Drexel led by two, 2-0, at the end of the first half.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Fairfield looked to create momentum after Felicitas Heinen scored off of a penalty corner. Senior goalkeeper Brooke Underwood made a big save less than two minutes later, which helped the Dragons hold onto the 2-1 lead for the remainder of the game. Underwood tallied five saves in the victory. She now has 10 on the season.

The Dragons will return to Buckley Field on Friday, September 2 as they host Columbia at 7:00 p.m.
