Four Temple Women's Tennis Players and Two Men's Players Earn Academic Honor

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's tennis players Carly Bohman, Alicia Doms, Lucie Pazderova and Elyse Steiner have been named 2011 Women's Division I ITA Scholar Athletes, announced by Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the governing body of collegiate tennis. In addition, men's tennis players Mansur Gishkaev and Kacper Rams earned spots on the 2011 Men's Division I ITA Scholar Athlete team.

In order to be eligible for ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

Bohman completed her freshman year at TU, posting a 3.60 in environmental studies. On the court, Bohman sported a combined record of 5-5, seeing most of her action in tournament play.

Doms, also finishing her rookie season, carries a 3.58 GPA in economics into her sophomore campaign. The lefty put together an impressive 18-7 singles record that included a 15-5 dual match record and a 6-0 mark against Atlantic 10 foes. She played most of her doubles matches with classmate Yana Mavrina, going 17-5 with a 10-2 record at number three. Overall, she was 19-7 in doubles action.

Pazderova, a 2011 graduate, ended her career with a 3.66 in international business/finance. She posted a 12-9 singles record in her final season, and teamed up with Steiner to play most of her doubles matches, going 14-5 between the first and second flights. Pazderova also went 2-0 when playing with classmate Josephine Bergman to post a 16-5 overall doubles record.

Steiner is Temple's final women's representative on the ITA academic squad. Another 2011 graduate, Steiner capped her final season with a 15-5 singles mark that featured a 12-4 record at the second flight. She played all of her doubles matches with Pazderova, where the duo went 14-5 at numbers one and two. A 3.43 kinesiology major, Steiner was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First-Team, in addition to earning a spot on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Tennis squad.

The Temple women's team finished the year with a 17-7 record, 6-1 in A-10 play. The Owls claimed third place at the conference championship.

Gishkaev is a 3.79 economics student, entering his senior season in 2011-12. He put together a solid spring, going 18-8 in singles action, while teaming up with Andrey Morozov for an 11-8 doubles record. Gishkaev was named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference squad at the conclusion of the season, and earlier this summer, he was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Tennis team.

Rams has earned a 3.87 GPA in finance through his first two years at Temple. In April, he was named to Temple's Trustee Ten, an honor given to the top-ten student-athletes in terms of GPA at TU. He also joined Gishkaev on the A-10 Academic All-Conference team and the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area squad. In addition to his academic achievements, Rams went 16-12 in singles play this season, as well as 25-7 in doubles action, including an 18-2 mark with Dmitry Vizhunov.

The men finished the year 18-8 overall and with a third place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship. The third place finish is the best for the Owls since also placing third in 2006.
