Saint Joseph's sophomore outfielder Greg Kumpel was named to the Atlantic 10 Baseball All-Conference Second Team on Tuesday. The catalyst of SJU's offense this season, Kumpel led the Hawks in most offensive categories in 2011 in his first year as an everyday player.

The Cornwall, N.Y. native paced the SJU squad from wire to wire, finishing the campaign with a .384 batting average. He also recorded a team-high 19 multi-hit games, including a 5-for-5 effort at George Washington on April 1. Playing in 48 of 52 games, Kumpel recorded 68 hits, tied for the sixth-highest single-season total in SJU history. He scored 31 runs on the season, the top mark on the squad, and he also tied for the team lead in runs batted in, driving in 32.

Kumpel ranked first in doubles (14), slugging percentage (.525) and on-base percentage (.463) while placing second on the team in home runs (three) and hit by pitches (nine).

After hitting .438 in a four-game set at Texas-San Antonio, Kumpel was voted the Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball Player of the Week on March 1.

Saint Joseph's finished the season 21-31 overall, 11-13 in Atlantic 10 play. It marks the first 20-win season for the Hawks in 10 years, while the squad has notched back-to-back double-digit win totals in conference play for the first time since winning 10 Atlantic 10 games each year from 2001 to 2003.
