Saint Joseph's Softball Drills Drexel, 9-3

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's softball team smacked 12 hits and took advantage of six Dragon errors in Thursday's 9-3 victory at Drexel. Junior pitcher Erin Gallagher picked up her 19th win of the season, while classmate Monica Aguilar drove in three and sophomore Dana Parks scored four times.

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's softball team smacked 12 hits and took advantage of six Dragon errors in Thursday's 9-3 victory at Drexel. Junior pitcher Erin Gallagher picked up her 19th win of the season, while classmate Monica Aguilar drove in three and sophomore Dana Parks scored four times.

The Hawks (24-13) opened up with a four-run explosion in the top of the first to take immediate control. Aguilar tallied the first two runs on a double that scored Parks and senior Laura Cardone. Following a fielder's choice, sophomore Rochelle Christman drilled a two-run shot over the right center wall to score classmate Shannon Kramer and put SJU up 4-0.

Drexel tallied its first run in the bottom of the second on a wild pitch, but the Hawks would counter with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Aguilar doubled home Parks in the fourth, while Parks singled home freshman Maria Ficca and came around to score on a fielding error in the fifth.

Christine Bednar scored the eighth run for SJU in the sixth inning, scoring on a fielding error on a hard-struck shot by freshman Morgan Earling.

Drexel would get to Gallagher for two runs in the sixth, but the junior ace never flinched, getting out of trouble to end the sixth and working out of back-to-back singles to start the seventh for her 19th win. she allowed three runs on four hits, while striking out six.


A Cardone double in the seventh scored Parks for the fourth time in the seventh to account for SJU's final run.

Saint Joseph's returns to action this Sunday in a doublehehader at La Salle beginning at noon.
