La Salle's Ashley Gale Earns A-10 Co-Player of the Week Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Senior guard Ashley Gale has been named Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week by the Atlantic 10 Conference, the A-10 announced Monday. She shares the honor with Xavier's Ta'Shia Phillips.

The announcement comes after Gale scored a game-high 29 points against Atlantic 10 rival and third-ranked Charlotte on Feb. 16. In that game Gale was perfect at the charity stripe, making all ten of her free throw attempts. She also shot 41 (7-for-17) percent from the field and stole the ball four times to lead the Explorers over the 49ers, 85-84.

In the Explorers' 1-1 week, Gale averaged 23 points, including 17 points against Saint Joseph's. She added three rebounds and three steals in the 77-60 loss to the Hawks and once again was perfect at the line (6-6).

With 12 attempts from beyond the arc against Charlotte, Gale is now second all-time in career three-point attempts (547) at La Salle.  Against Saint Joseph's, Gale's three steals moved her into second all-time in single season steals (85).

The Explorers will next face Richmond Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Tom Gola Arena.
