SJU's Kevin Kratochwill Named Atlantic 10 Baseball Rookie of the Week

SJU freshman Kevin Kratochwill was named the Atlantic 10 Baseball Rookie of the Week on Monday.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Saint Joseph's freshman Kevin Kratochwill was named the Atlantic 10 Baseball Rookie of the Week, it was announced on Monday. Kratochwill made his presence felt in a major way last weekend as the Hawks split their season-opening series at Old Dominion.

Kratochwill was the only Hawk to hit safely or score a run in every game of the four-game set. He had a pair of three-hit games, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one driven in as the Hawks fell in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader before a 3-for-5, three-run, two-RBI performance helped power the Hawks past the Monarchs on Sunday afternoon.

He also made an impact on the basepaths, going 5-for-5 on steal attempts, including swiping three bags in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader. In the game he was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a run batted in, also reaching base via four walks.

The freshman finished the weekend 8-of-16 with eight runs scored, four RBI, and five stolen bases.

Kratochwill is the first Hawk to win Rookie of the Week honors since David Valesente shared the award in May of 2007.

The Hawks return to the diamond Friday night at Texas-San Antonio. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. Eastern. STORY AD BEGINS HERE
