Temple Women's Track & Field Places Sixth At Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships

KINGSTON, R.I. - Led by a first place finish from sophomore Tonney Smith in the 800m run, the Temple women's track & field team placed sixth at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships in Kingston, R.I. Smith ran the 800m in a time of 2:13.90 to win the gold medal.

KINGSTON, R.I. - Led by a first place finish from sophomore Tonney Smith in the 800m run, the Temple women's track & field team placed sixth at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships in Kingston, R.I.  Smith ran the 800m in a time of 2:13.90 to win the gold medal.

Temple placed sixth witn 61 points, while Dayton won the meet with 161.  Charlotte took second with 159, followed by Rhode Island (105), Duquesne (66) and Saint Louis (65).

Several Owls also fared well on the day, including senior Assata Cowart, who placed third in the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.33.  Freshman Ambrosia Iwugo placed fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 25.45, while also taking sixth in the 400m finals with a time of 57.43.  Senior Paris Williams finishes on her heels inthe 400m, turning in a seventh place time of 57.45.

Cowart also placed third in the 500m run with a time of 1:15.65, while seniors Shadaya Bennett and Tashima Stephens placed fifth and eight in the 800m run.

The Owls 4x400m relay team fared well, running a time of 3:51.79 for a third place finish.  The 4x800m relay placed second, turning in a time of 9:09.65.
