Temple Women's Gymnastics Scores Season High To Take First At Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Temple women's gymnastics team broke out a dominating performance at the Bulldog Invitational hosted by Yale on Saturday afternoon. With an individual finisher placing first on every apparatus, the Owls post a season-high 191.600 to take top honors.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Temple women's gymnastics team broke out a dominating performance at the Bulldog Invitational hosted by Yale on Saturday afternoon.  With an individual finisher placing first on every apparatus, the Owls post a season-high 191.600 to take top honors.

Temple blew away the competition for first place as a team, topping host Yale (184.350) and Springfield (178.950). 

Juniors Kaity Watson and Corrine Williams finished one-two in the all-around, each owning first place finishes while freshman Sylvie Borschel took first on beam and floor.

Watson, scoring 38.425 all-around, took first place on vault with a 9.800.  She led two other Owls to take the top three spots on the apparatus, with junior Alexandra Uscatu taking second (9.725) and Williams placing third (9.650).

Williams (38.250, AA) tied with teammate senior Chelsea Troutman for meet-best honors on uneven bars.  The duo scored 9.750 for first place, with Watson finishing third with a score of 9.650.  Also finishing in the top 10 were freshman Heather Zaniewski (5th, 9.475), senior Kathryn Ho (6th, 9.425) and senior Chelsea Lapent (9th, 9.050).

Borschel has been very consistent on beam for Temple, winning the event with a score of 9.725.  Williams placed second with a score of 9.600, followed by senior Marissa Oxenford in fourth (9.500).  Watson, Troutman and Zaniewski also placed in the top 10 for the Owls.

On floor, it was Borschel again who took top honors with a score of 9.750.  Freshman Jasmine Johnson backed her efforts with a third place score of 9.700.  Sophomore Margaret Walch placed fifth with a score of 9.550, followed by Watson and Oxenford in sixth (T, 9.500).

Next up for Temple is the Towson Invitational at 1:00 p.m. on February 20th.
