Sasek's knee may rule him out

K.C. Keeler may have to announce a new starting quarterback for the second time in a week as starter Trevor Sasek may be ruled out of the Saturday’s home opener.

The sophomore quarterback beat out junior Tim Donnelly for the starting nod, but was injured in the team’s loss at Navy this past Saturday.  Sasek injured his knee late in the third quarter after being tackled during a flea-flicker play. Keeler said there is no structural damage and Sasek will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, due to the Labor Day holiday.

He said the knee swelled up and the Blue Hens are expecting to get him “back sometime soon”, but it was too early to name him ready for Saturday.

“He felt a lot better [Monday] morning. He was talking about getting some reps in practice,” said Keeler. “So that was positive in my mind that he was talking in that way.”

Before the injury, Sasek threw for 82 yards on 9-for-19 passing and one interception. Keeler said that the way Sasek delivered his first pass reminded him of former Blue Hen Joe Flacco. He said that Sasek was very confident and played with a great pace to the game.
