What's Happening: Back on My Feet 5-Miler

As the area digs out from yet ANOTHER snow event, it’s hard to believe that we’re almost ‘halfway’ to the Blue Cross Broad Street Run.

As the area digs out from yet ANOTHER snow event, it's hard to believe that we're almost 'halfway' to the Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run.

But for many local runners, next Saturday's Back on My Feet 5-miler marks just that—a halfway point in their training for the 10-mile jaunt down Broad. It's appropriate that they commemorate this milestone with a run that's exactly half the distance many will travel on May 4.

Start time is 8 a.m. sharp next Saturday, March 29 at the east end of the lower bridge over the Schuylkill River along West River Drive. The course will take runners up West River Drive along the river before a challenging uphill brings you towards the Please Touch Museum. After rounding Centennial Circle, it's back toward W. River Drive for a flat (and hopefully fast!) finish.

Registration is open and costs $40 from now until March 26. The price goes up to $45 on race day. As an added bonus, your race bib is good for one free drink at the Bishop's Collar (2349 Fairmount Ave.) following the race.

The Back on My Feet event invites all runners, from those looking to set a 'personal-best' on May 4 to those who want a first-time experience of running in an organized event. Commitment to building a stronger, more unified community is the ultimate goal of Back on My Feet, an organization founded in hopes of using running as a means towards providing self-sufficiency to individuals experiencing homelessness. All proceeds from next Saturday's event will benefit the local Philadelphia chapter.

"We believe running can move your life forward—and every runner has a story about how it changed them," said Scott Crossin, Executive Director of Back on My Feet Philadelphia. "It is our privilege to help fellow Philadelphians who are experiencing homelessness to transform their lives and become self-sufficient. We are so grateful to AT&T, our Presenting Sponsor, and all of our sponsors and race participants for providing us the opportunity to serve more people in our community."

If you want to register, volunteer or attend next week's run, more information on the event is available at backonmyfeet.org.
