Top executives, media personalities to appear at "Impact of Sports"

Tomorrow, the Rothman Institute will host "The Impact of Sports" conference at Lincoln Financial Field. Prominent Philadelphia sports personalities and keynote speaker Steve Forbes will address attendees.

This Wednesday, the Rothman Institute will host The Impact of Sports, a conference that promises to "bring together the brightest minds in sports." The panel's goal is to discuss the health, social and economic benefits sports bring to society.

The conference will begin at 7 a.m. at Lincoln Financial Field. The event is sold out, but Sports Doc will offer updates and coverage from the conference.

After a meet-and-greet and breakfast, the event will begin with an address from Michael Ciccotti, M.D., director of Sports Medicine at Rothman Institute and Sports Doc panelist. Dr. Ciccotti will introduce the day's first speaker, the Honorable Tom Corbett, Governor of Pennsylvania. Governor Corbett will explore the impact sports have at a state level.

"Sports impact our lives on so many levels—and sometimes, we don't realize it," explains Dr. Ciccotti. "We see it from the medical perspective, the tremendous health and psychological benefits. But beyond that, sports can affect the sociological and economic development of a community."

Around 9 a.m., Rothman's Paul Marchetto, M.D. will introduce a panel including Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Eagles GM Howie Roseman, 76ers CEO Adam Aron and Philadelphia Flyers president Peter Luukko. Moderated by Comcast SportsNet's Neil Hartman, this panel will discuss the current climate in big-time professional sports challenges faced by leading decision-maker and strategies for meeting and overcoming those challenges.

"We have the fortune of bringing together so many people with incredible and unique perspectives on the impact of sports," says Dr. Ciccotti. "Each panel will focus on a specific topic pertinent to the wide-reaching impact sports have on every aspect of our society."

Dr. Ciccotti will join Sports Doc panelists Peter DeLuca, M.D. and David Rubenstein, M.D. for a discussion entitled "Managing the Physical Impact of Sports." This panel will be moderated by 6ABC's Ali Gorman, R.N.

Other speakers will include former Eagles quarterback and current ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski, Sports Illustrated publisher Frank Wall and Sean Hanrahan of ESPN. The event will wrap up with a keynote address from Steve Forbes, chairman and editor-in-chief of Forbes Media.
