The Mudder of all obstacle courses is back

Tough Mudder has been hard at work on a labor of love to make this year’s event even more challenging than loyal Mudders have come to expect.

Tough Mudder has been hard at work on a labor of love to make this year's event which will be held Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18 at Plantation Field in Coatesville even more challenging than loyal Mudders have come to expect. They have re-defined old obstacles and given birth to new ones like the Birth Canal where you must crawl under a deceptively heavy, water-filled liner which is pushing down on you as you head toward daylight.

Another new creation for this year is King of Swingers where you take a leap off a ledge and grab a hold of a rope swing while dangling above a pit of muddy water. You must be able to hold on long enough to grab the bell. Cry Baby is an enclosed structure filled with a safe tear gas –like substance and littered with hazards along the way.

Also new this year is the Fruit Shoot Mini Mudder –  a one-mile kid-friendly obstacle course for children aged 7 to 12 and 42 inches tall and over.

"Tough Mudder is a good spectator sport but there is not as much to do for kids. With the Fruit Shoot Mini Mudder, they get to feel like their parents with fun obstacles like the Secret Agent Squeeze, Tunnel of Terror and Gooey Shoes," Jodi Kovacs, marketing communications associate at Tough Mudder, told Philly.com.

What's the best way to train for the Mudder of all obstacle course? Kovacs explained that training for Tough Mudder does not require a lot of time or equipment, but that they do offer their participants a 28-day training guide and an obstacle-specific training guide created by Coach aka Kyle Railton, a Tough Mudder training expert. Both guides offer a combination of cardio, interval and strength training to get mudder ready.

Do you think you have what it takes to be a Tough Mudder? It is not too late to sign up. Tickets are $169, but there will be a price increase August 27. Spectator passes online are $20 until Friday before the event weekend. On site they will be $40. Get more information here.
