Spartan Race Training: Recap

Why complete a Spartan Race? Why race at all?

Why complete a Spartan Race? Why race at all?

Because racing is life in a nutshell.

You identify your own personal milestone, you go through ups and downs, and you rise to the challenge. If you hit unexpected obstacles or misfortune, you pick yourself up and learn to try again. If the plan is right, you become healthier in the process. You grow.

60 Team Relentless Spartan Racers joined forces on Saturday to grow together. Highlights:

  1. The team ran for the Steve's Club cause, had over 20 kids join the race, and raised over $3,000 for the cause.

  2. A Spartan Race employee looked out at the sea of Team Relentless eagerly awaiting the start and exclaimed, "You don't mess around!"

  3. Laura blew away 99% of the competition and finished as the 3rd female overall. Three Steve's Club kids, led by Ray Negron, hit the top 10.

  4. Kristie leaped to the top of a 9-foot wall, struggled, persisted, and cleared it.

  5. Luis got across a tough set of monkey bars – something he trained over a month for – and screamed "YESSS!"

  6. Over 90% of the Team missed the spear throw (a common Spartan occurrence) but kept their heads high, stepped to the side, completed 30 burpees, and moved forward.

  7. Several teammates overcame pre-race jitters and crossed the finish line with smiles on their faces and better for the experience.

  8. Couples – Karen and Jeremy, Ross and Amy, Toni and Tim, Kuba and Nicole, Luis and Laura, Ian and Devon, Marc and Amanda – raced together and supported one another throughout.

  9. Justin looked last year's ACL tear in the eye and triumphed.

  10. Team shirts were spotted throughout the stadium and prompted cheers of encouragement.

  11. An unofficial high five record was set.

  12. The team congregated to celebrate this year's Spartan achievement at MilkBoy.

It was a great day for all. Thank you to all who participated and contributed in any way, shape or form!
