Registration opens July 1 for Cooper Norcross Run the Bridge 10K

On Tuesday, July 1, registration will open for the largest 10K in the Tri-State Area, the Cooper Norcross Run the Bridge on November 2, 2014.

On Tuesday, July 1, registration will open for the largest 10K in the Tri-State Area, the Cooper Norcross Run the Bridge on November 2, 2014.

The 6.2 mile run is a unique out-and-back course on the Ben Franklin Bridge. Starting at the tollgates on the New Jersey side of the Ben Franklin Bridge, runners will proceed down the westbound lanes before crossing into Philadelphia and turning around at the barriers. They will then run the bridge back towards New Jersey, before bearing right at the base of the bridge to run along the Waterfront towards Campbell's Field, where there's a race to the finish at centerfield. In 2013, 20-year-old Girma Gerbe of New York won the race with a chip time of 29 minutes and 36 seconds.

There is also a two-mile bridge walk that follows a similar, but shorter path than the 10K runners. Plus, kids, ages 12 and under, can partake in the fun by registering for a dash in Campbell's Field, where they'll sprint across the warning track to left field while watching themselves on the JumboTron. All participants receive a medal and a free ticket to a 2014 Camden Riversharks game.

All proceeds will benefit the Larc School, which serves children with disabilities in Bellmawr, N.J. The run is a joint effort between Cooper University Hospital and the Norcross Foundation.

Registration fees are $45 for the 10K, $25 for the 2-mile walk and $10 for the kids' dash. 10K registration will close on October 18 or once they reach capacity at 4,500 runners. Runners interested in registering for the 10K must be able to complete the race in under 90 minutes, while walkers must be able to complete the 2-mile course in under 50 minutes.
