As you usher in 2015, do you have exercise and eating better on your mind? Whether you are changing your lifestyle completely or just looking for ways to spice up your exercise routine, MyFitnessPal, a free calorie counter app, has been crunching numbers from their 75 million users to help give you some guidance on what will be hot fitness trends in 2015.

Because MyFitnessPal allows you to not only count calories and track your food, but also track how many calories you burn off with exercise, the number experts there have been able to compare data from 2013 to numbers from 2014 to aid in their predictions. To get their results they took the total number of minutes logged for each of these activities and divided by the number of active users on the app over the period of January-November of 2013 vs. January-November of 2014. As their database grew, they corrected for the number of daily active users.

One of their biggest findings was that the popularity of wearable devices and fitness apps is definitely on the rise. Use of connected apps and devices like Fitbit, Jawbone Up, RunKeeper and MapMyFitness were up 174% in 2014.

Glennis Coursey, MyFitnessPal's coaching lead, and Elle Penner, the registered dietician for the app have predicted the following top trends for 2015 based on 2013 and 2014 data:

1. Soul Cycle (up 78.3% since 2013)

2. Dance Fitness like Zumba (down 8% in 2014) and Ballet Barre classes (up 45.8% in 2014)

3. Tabata – High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) (up 19.6% in 2014)

4. CrossFit (up 17% in 2014)

5. Running (up 7.1% in 2014)

No matter what type of exercise you think is right for you, make sure you get out there and work up a sweat. Be good to your body in 2015.
