Get fit at The Oval this Tuesday, Aug. 13

If you didn’t know, Tuesdays at The Oval have been dubbed “wellness day” and this coming Tuesday (Aug. 13th) the Parks and Recreation department is pulling out all the stops with a jam-packed schedule of fitness events.

The Oval, the pop-up park on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in front of the Art Museum that opened in July, will be coming to close on August 18th.

If you didn't know, Tuesdays at The Oval have been dubbed "wellness day" and this coming Tuesday (Aug. 13th) the Parks and Recreation department is pulling out all the stops with a jam-packed schedule of fitness events.

We're talking Zumba fitness parties, boot camp by Weston Fitness and cardio hula hooping. Yes you read that right, hula hooping is a workout and apparently it's catching on like wildfire!

AAAI Certified Personal Trainer and recent performer for Cirque du Soleil Jennifer Alvarez will teach dancers and non-dancers alike how to move a custom hoop fit for all shapes and sizes. You'll work the hoop from your waist, hips, shoulders, arms and legs, in addition to instruction of vertical hooping, beginner jumps, body stalls, tosses and throws, and other off the body moves. And don't be intimidated; Jennifer says she has NEVER had a student that could not hoop!

Oh yea, and did I mention it's all free?  Here's Tuesday's schedule:

TUESDAY, AUGUST 13, 2013:
10 am – 12 pm: You Spin Me Right Round: Cardio Hoop Dance Class Hoop, Presented by Philly Hoop Starz.
12 pm – 1 pm: Weston Fitness Body Basics Boot Camp
1 pm – 2 pm: (1st class) – Zumba Fitness Party, Presented by Zumba Fitness
2 pm – 3 pm: (2nd class) – Zumba Fitness Party, Presented by Zumba Fitness
