Snow and ice got you down? Here is something to cheer you up: Registration for the 2015 Blue Cross Broad Street Run lottery opens Sunday, February 1 and will close on Friday, February 13 at 11:59 p.m. Yes, May is not that far away with its warmer days and sunny skies.

Remember that the Broad Street Run is a lottery, so you are registering for a chance to participate in the run. If you are selected through the lottery, then you will receive a confirmation e-mail on Tuesday, February 17 and only then will your credit card be charged with the $43.00 registration fee.

What if you don't get selected? Veteran runners – those who have run the race for 10 years, either consecutively or non-consecutively – can then apply through a guaranteed veteran entry. You have to see if you are selected through the lottery first though. You must submit your entry by March 1 to veterans@broadstreetrun.com.

If you don't have veteran status, another option is to sign up as a charity runner for any of the following organizations:

American Cancer Society DeterminNation Program

Fairmount Park Conservancy

Back On My Feet

Students Run Philly Style

The 36th annual Blue Cross Broad Street Run will take place on Sunday, May 3 at 8:30 a.m. The 10 mile race kicks off at Broad St. and W. Fisher Avenue and finishes approximately one-quarter mile inside the main gate of the Philadelphia Navy Yard at the southern end of Broad Street.
