Wood to sign with Charlotte Hornets

LAS VEGAS – The  Charlotte Hornets will sign Christian Wood to a two-year deal. The second year is reportedly a team option. It was first reported by the Vertical.

"Seriously, philly thanks for the love and everything you guys have done for me in a year ....true love," Wood tweeted Wednesday night.

The 76ers did not offer Wood a qualifying offer by the June 30 deadline, making him an unrestricted free agent. But the 6-foot-11 center stood out on the Sixers summer-league team as a reserve. He averaged 15.8 points and 5.7 rebounds in six combined games in the NBA Summer League and the Utah Summer League.

He averaged 3.6 points and 2.2 rebounds this past season as a rookie with the Sixers. He spent a portion of the season with the Sixers NBA Development team, the Delaware 87ers.  The Sixers cut him twice this past season.

Wood joins Sean Kilpatrick (Brooklyn Nets) and Jordan McRae (Cleveland Cavaliers) as former 87ers to sign with NBA teams.
