Mock drafts love Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker for 76ers

One thing that's hard to find around this time of year is consensus. Every team has an angle, and no team really wants the others to know their true intentions.

Teams hide behind smokescreens, false reports and bogus workouts in order to keep the rest of the league off of their trail.

Still, the lack of reliable information doesn't stop us from searching for consensus when getting an idea of who the Sixers may snag with their two top-ten selections in the 2014 NBA Draft.

Below I looked at 10 popular mock drafts from around the league's landscape to get an idea of who the Sixers may select third overall. Philly.com's own mock draft is not included.

The 10 separate mock drafts only saw two potential picks for the Sixers: Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker.

Wiggins is the top target, and the Sixers may move up to try to get him if they don't think he will be available at three.

Overall, it seems very likely that the Sixers will wind up with one of the two highly-hyped perimeter players. These mocks see no other alternatives, and they are evenly split on who will be selected third between Wiggins and Parker.

DraftExpress.com sees the Sixers selecting Andrew Wiggins, as does Bleacher Report. From B/R:

"Wiggins would really be a great fit. His athleticism and defensive ability would play well in Philly's full-court offense, and he would finally give the team a player to build around in the half-court offense. Plus, there won't be any pressure on him to "be the man" immediately; as the Sixers are in the midst of a long-term rebuilding project, he would have plenty of time to develop. It's the perfect marriage, and it seems likely to come to fruition."

ESPN NBA Insider Chad Ford also sees the Sixers selecting Wiggins, stating:

"Wiggins has been the target all year for the Sixers. He finally traveled to Philly on Monday for his first workout. The Sixers have been actively trying to trade up to make sure they land him, and I'm told a swap of No. 1 for No. 3 and Thaddeus Young isn't totally out of the question. However, the deal might not be necessary, as I think the most likely scenario right now is that Wiggins falls to No. 3. If Wiggins somehow goes ahead of them, Jabari Parker is the obvious fit."

Joe Kotoch of Sheridan Hoops agrees with Ford in that he also sees Wiggins falling to the Sixers at third overall:

"Wiggins might be a safer pick than Embiid, but if he falls to the Sixers then Philly will be ecstatic. While he is still improving as a shooter and might not be the dominant force some thought he would be a freshman, he is a great defender that will be very good in transition and finishing at the rim. Wiggins is an explosive athlete and could be the second consecutive Canadian drafted first overall. The Sixers already have Nerlens Noel, Michael Carter-Williams, and also pick at 10, so Sam Hinkie can be active on draft night in exploring trades to move up, down, or acquire a veteran. Philadelphia just began its rebuild and can afford to let Wiggins develop on the court. There are reports the 76ers are willing to offer this pick and Thaddeus Young to Cleveland to move up, but I get the sense that if the draft were held today Wiggins would fall to 3."

It is safe to say that the Sixers would be pretty happy if Wiggins fell in their lap at the third selection spot. If that happens, the Sixers would get their guy while still being able to use Thaddeus Young as an asset elsewhere.

While Wiggins may be the best potential pick for the 7-6, the ultra-talented Parker wouldn't be a bad consolation prize.

"The Sixers landed the third pick in a draft with three standout players, so the team's decision to tear things down (trading Jrue Holiday) and tank is looking brilliant. Jabari Parker is a bona-fide franchise player to build around, but all signs point to them making a play to move up into the Top 2 for Wiggins. Despite an unimpressive tournament performance, Parker's stock remains high. Parker may lack the long-term potential of a Joel Embiid or the freakish athleticism of an Andrew Wiggins, but his offensive polish and maturity make him a highly regarded prospect. He's both polished and versatile and understands what it means to be a professional having grown up around the game with his father a former standout."

At this point, with a little over a week until the 2014 NBA Draft, the Sixers are in great position to improve the future of the franchise. Considering the mediocrity the team was marred in recently, trying to determine which promising young player to add to the roster is not a bad problem for the franchise to face.

Most mock drafts seem to be split between the Sixers selecting Wiggins or Parker. While Wiggins is the top target, Parker has the potential to be a great player. Either way, the Sixers will be adding another promising young piece to the puzzle on June 26th, as they may finally get that go-to perimeter player.
